Hermitage cat

In the cellars and premises of the State Hermitage Museum official are about fifty cats — descendants brought by Peter I from Holland and the cat was discharged by Catherine II from Kazan 30 cats for catching large numbers of mice in the Winter Palace.

There is a special Fund of the friends of the Hermitage cats, and every year the Museum staff arrange for them a traditional feast with lots of food — “Day of the Hermitage cat”.hermitage-cat3
